By: 1st Lt. Al Nash, Wing Public Affairs

(missoula, mt)  Five cadets from the Missoula Composite Squadron were honored at a regional U.S. Civil Air Patrol color guard and drill team competition held recently in Wyoming.

The cadets from the Missoula composite squadron represented the Montana Wing at the Rockey Mountain Regional Color Guard and Drill Team competition, which was held at F.E. Warren Air Force base at Cheyanne Wyoming on Friday and Saturday, APril 27-28.  They competed against cadets from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho.

The Cadets competed in head to head quiz bowl competition, and a written exam to test their aerospace knowledge.  They also had to demonstrate their physical fitness, pass inspection, and were judged by senior CAP officers and members of the F.E. Warren Air Force Base Honor Guard in both indoor and outdoor drills.

At the Saturday evening awards banquet, the Montana cadets were presented with the Team Spirit trophy by Rocky Mountain Region Commander Col. Russell Chazell, in recognition of their friendly, upbeat nature and the competitive spirit they demonstrated during the weekend competition.

The members of the color guard team are Cadet Technical Seargent Christopher Brault, Cadet Staff Seargent Bentley Alsup, Cadet Airman First Class Daniel Belanger, Cadet Airman Nicholas McKinney, and Cadet Airman Sierra Beans.

Accompanying the cadets on this trip were Kay Ebelt, the commander of the Missoula Composite Squadron and 2nd Lt. Powell, Deputy Commander of Cadets.  Also on support for cadets were Lt. Col Pete Graf, wing vice commadner, Col Martin Borque of Bozeman, a past wing commander, and 1st lt Al Nash, wing public affairs officer.

The 250 officers and cadets of the Montana Wing of the U.S. Civil Air Patrol perform search and rescue, homeland security, disaster relief, and counter drug missions at the request of goverment or law enforcement agencies.

My sincere congrats to all these award winning cadets!
Mike Avery, Capt. CAP
